What good will it do if we’ve “bent the curve” but don’t have a vaccine?

Are we going to have to stay inside for a year-and-a-half? Are the schools going to still be closed next year? Are restaurants and bars going to be closed for another year-and-a-half? Are we going to have to work from home for another year-and-a-half?
